Import-Export Currency Converter

Live exchange rates for INR, USD, EUR, and Gulf currencies for Indian exporters and importers.

100% client-side. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.

An exporter quoting in dollars, an importer paying a supplier in yuan or dirhams, a freelancer invoicing a client in euros, a family receiving remittances from the Gulf — all of them need today's rate, and all of them discover that the bank's rate is not the rate on the news. This converter shows live mid-market rates for INR against USD, EUR, GBP, AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR, BHD, SGD, JPY, CNY, AUD and CAD, converts in both directions, lets you add a bank margin to estimate what you will actually receive or pay, and keeps a quick table for the pairs you use most.

Mid-market vs your bank's rate

The rate you see on Google is the mid-market rate — the midpoint between buy and sell in the interbank market. Banks and remittance services add a margin of 0.5–3% plus fees and 18% GST on the fee. On a ₹8,00,000 (about $9,000) inward remittance, a 2% margin is ₹16,000. The converter's margin field lets you model this; comparing two or three providers on the effective rate (INR received ÷ foreign amount sent) is worth the five minutes.

How to use the converter

  1. Choose the pair and type the amount in either currency; the other updates instantly.
  2. Set the margin your bank or platform charges to see the effective rate and the rupee difference.
  3. Open the rate table for the last 7 or 30 days to time large payments.
  4. Copy the figure into a proforma invoice or service quote; for GST purposes, the invoice must still show the INR value.

Rates refresh from a public rate feed while you are online; the last fetched rates are cached in your browser so the tool still works offline.

Exporters and freelancers

  • Invoicing: you may bill in foreign currency, but GST law requires the INR value on the tax invoice using the RBI reference rate (or the rate notified by CBIC for customs) on the date of supply.
  • Zero-rated exports: services to overseas clients paid in convertible foreign exchange are exports — file a Letter of Undertaking to invoice without IGST, or pay and claim a refund. The steps, and the ₹20 lakh registration threshold, are in Freelancer taxes in India: 44ADA, GST, LUT.
  • FIRC/FIRA: keep the bank's inward remittance certificate for each receipt; GST refunds and income-tax scrutiny ask for it.
  • EDF: since 1 October 2026 every service or software export invoice must be declared to your AD bank within 30 days of the invoice month, with the proceeds realised in nine months — see EDF filing for service exporters and track the dates in the EDF filing helper.
  • Pricing: build a 2–3% buffer for conversion cost and rate movement into the freelance rate.

Importers

  • Customs duty is computed on the CBIC-notified exchange rate for the week, not the bank rate on payment day — a small but real difference on large consignments.
  • Forward contracts from your bank lock a rate for 1–6 months; for regular imports above a few lakh a month, the hedge is usually worth the small cost.
  • Landed cost = FOB price × rate + freight + insurance + duty + IGST (creditable) + clearing; the seller pricing workflow takes it from there.

NRIs and remittances

Money sent home is not taxed in the recipient's hands when it is a gift from a close relative; interest earned on it in India is. For the sender, LRS limits and TCS apply to outward remittances above ₹10 lakh a year (rates vary by purpose). Compare bank wire, UPI-linked remittance apps and exchange houses on the effective rate, not the advertised "zero fee".

Frequently asked questions

Why is the rate here different from my bank's?

This is the mid-market rate. Banks add a margin and fees; use the margin field to estimate your effective rate, and compare providers on the rupees actually received.

Which rate do I use on a GST invoice for exports?

The RBI reference rate on the date of supply (or the CBIC-notified rate for goods). Show the INR value on the invoice even if the client pays in foreign currency.

Do I pay GST on export income?

Exports are zero-rated. File an LUT to invoice without IGST; otherwise pay IGST and claim a refund. You still need GST registration once turnover crosses ₹20 lakh.

How often do rates update?

Every few minutes while online, from a public feed. Cached rates are shown with a timestamp when offline.

Is TCS deducted on money I send abroad?

Outward remittances under LRS above ₹10 lakh a year attract TCS (5–20% depending on purpose; nil for education via loan up to limits), creditable against your income tax.
